Who we are
Legal Aid WA is an independent statutory authority funded by the WA Government and Australian Governments. We provide over 100,000 legal services to clients across Western Australia each year in the areas of criminal, family and civil law.
About the program
This program is a fantastic opportunity to fast track your legal career with comprehensive training, professional support, responsibility, diverse work opportunities, amazing life experience and a generous salary package.
The program is for law graduates who will have completed their Law degree by 1 January 2026 and either:
- have not yet completed an approved Practical Legal Training (PLT) course or been admitted to practice or
- have been admitted to practice with generally limited experience in legal practice.
The 2 year program involves an initial period of training in our Perth office including a 6 to 8 month practical legal training course if applicable, organised and funded by Legal Aid WA. Following admission and successful completion of the training program, you are located to one of our 7 regional offices: Kununurra, Broome, South Hedland, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Bunbury or Albany.
In the program you gain experience in legal advice and discrete assistance, duty lawyer services, community legal education, and representation on less complex legal matters. Training and practice initially focus on criminal law matters and then expands to include family and civil law matters, depending on regional office requirements.
You are supported in your regional relocation through a range of benefits and subsidies such as removalist services, district allowance and subsidised housing in some locations.
