It was the second time the women have participated in the heartfelt tribute.
As minimum-security Section 95 prisoners they are approved to work in the community, and their involvement provided a meaningful way to give back.
Minister for Corrective Services and Veterans, Paul Papalia CSC, said the event was a unique opportunity for the business of two of his portfolios to come together.
“It’s a special way to honour our veterans while also supporting rehabilitation and community engagement for the women,” he said.
In addition to planting the poppies, a team of residents from Boronia had spent many hours crocheting nearly 700 poppies for the display.
Judi Welch from the RSLWA Poppy Ladies expressed her gratitude.
“The Boronia residents are so enthusiastic, it makes the work so much quicker. They truly feel like they’re part of something very special, in being a part of this significant event.”.
