How much funding is available?

Up to $766,000

What is e-waste?

For the purposes of the ERTSS, e-waste includes those items as set out in Schedule 1 of the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery (e-waste) Regulations 2024 which includes screens, information technology and telecommunications, lighting and lamps, and medical devices.

Are there any exclusions?

ERTSS excludes batteries, large appliances and some temperature exchange equipment such as fridges and freezers etc. (white goods) as these can be processed through other avenues; batteries are captured under the existing B-cycle scheme (supported by the Battery Stewardship Council), and white goods can be processed via the scrap metal network.

Are fluoro light tubes included as e-waste?

Yes

What is meant by ‘e-waste transportation for recycling’?

The movement of collected e-waste from an e-waste collection point to an appropriately licensed e-waste recycler or aggregation hub.

Can we claim for transportation not undertaken by an e-waste recycler or other third party?

Yes – at the discretion of the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, provided clear evidence of transportation costs is provided.

Can we submit multiple applications?

Yes – provided they are clearly for different transportation occurrences.

You can submit claims for multiple shipments in one application.

How is the rebate calculated?

You can apply for 50 per cent of the direct cost of transportation. The cost of recycling, gate fees etc. is not eligible for a rebate through this program.

How will claims be assessed?

Applications will be assessed against the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) Remoteness Structure and Interactive Map as received, and processed based on their determined remoteness, then by the date received, earliest first.

Funding will be distributed in order of remoteness:

  1. Very remote
  2. Remote
  3. Outer regional
  4. Inner regional
