The SES Development Series (included in the Learning and Development Guide for Senior Executive Service Members) enhances the capabilities of SES members to fulfil their complex, multi-faceted roles.

The courses are:

  • Leading and Influencing for Change
  • Using Policy to Shape WA
  • Walking in 2 Worlds Together.

Each course provides contemporary leadership development experiences in the context of the unique operating environment in which SES members lead. Co-designed with subject matter experts and SES members, the courses are specifically tailored for the WA public sector.  

Who is eligible to attend?

SES members.

Frequency and duration

Each course is 2 days face to face and runs at regular intervals throughout the year.

Cost

$912 per course, per participant.

How to enrol

Complete the enrolment form. Courses are held on a regular basis and the website is updated as course dates are set.

Places are limited for each course so completing the enrolment form does not guarantee a place. You receive confirmation of a place 4 weeks before the course.

Leading and Influencing for Change

Identify ways to build a high performance culture to lead, influence and achieve change.

This workshop looks at how and where you can add the most value in developing a high performing and future fit agency and public sector.

It provides you with practical ways to build high performing teams through influencing and motivating others. Understand why people respond to change the way they do and how you can create an innovative and future fit workplace.

Key focus areas are:

  • high performance
  • enterprise mindset
  • psychology of influencing others
  • how to drive change and why people respond the way they do
  • a future fit sector
  • psychological safety
  • innovation
  • influencing for funding and resourcing
  • disruption of thinking
  • storytelling and how to use this to influence others.

Using Policy to Shape WA

Understand the interactions between government, policy and a citizen centric environment in the WA context.

This workshop explores how to incorporate citizen and user feedback to create and implement inclusive, responsive and forward thinking social policies.

It supports you to implement policies to meet current and future challenges and enhance evidence based policy development.

Key focus areas are:

  • customer centric strategic policy
  • role of policy in government
  • public policy challenges
  • the authorising environment
  • dynamic sensing and navigating change
  • designing, monitoring and evaluating policy for system level impact
  • public sector stewardship
  • risk and innovation
  • current sector challenges and approaches.

Walking in 2 Worlds Together

Discover how to foster a leadership approach and workplace environment that are inclusive of First Nations cultures, traditions, values and beliefs.

This workshop explores how to work collaboratively to create and practice meaningful cultural and psychological safety in your agency. It provides you with the knowledge and processes to drive systemic change to retain and build leadership pathways for Aboriginal staff.

The workshop was co-designed and developed by a registered Aboriginal business and informed by consultation with public sector Aboriginal staff and the Aboriginal Advisory Council of WA.

Key focus areas are:

  • equality, equity, inclusion and structural barriers in the workplace
  • cultural load and tokenism
  • bias in the workplace
  • culturally appropriate communication
  • family and community commitments
  • trust, rapport and understanding
  • western and cultural governance
  • relationships with community
  • attraction, recruitment, retention and career progression
  • truth telling and respectful accountability.
