Learn when children can work in WA

As a young worker, whether you’re starting your very first job or already gaining experience, knowing your employment rights is key to ensure you are getting paid correctly.

In support of the State Government’s Koorlangka Bidi – WA Youth Action Plan 2024 – 2027, Private Sector Labour Relations aims to help young people in achieving their goals by providing resources for young workers about their employment rights and where to find the right information on pay rates, leave entitlements and other workplace issues.

The first step in understanding your employment rights is to work out which system covers your employment. Two systems of employment law operate for the private sector in Western Australia:

  • the state industrial relations system; and
  • the national fair work system

Find out which system covers your employment

Once you have identified which system covers your employment, you can find links to the relevant information below on your pay and employment entitlements.
