EPM is a precision machining and engineering business that services the agriculture, defence, rail, mining, and heavy manufacturing sectors.
“EPM wants to be at the forefront of the EV transition.”
Being a trusted industry name for over 40 years, EPM wanted to lead the way with EV transition. The Charge Up Grants provided that opportunity - EPM could install a Public DC Charger as they transitioned their fleet, while supporting their employees and the public to transition.
“EPM engaged its electrician throughout the design process to ensure it was cost effective.”
EPM collaborated with their electrician experienced in installations throughout the design process, which was vital to avoiding expensive installation works. EPM started the design process by finding out how much power the site’s electrical capacity could accommodate before it needed expensive network upgrades.
After this, it was a straightforward process of identifying a site closest to the switchboard, estimating the installation cost, and choosing the highest-power charger within the remaining budget.
“EPM’s charger attracts up to 10 visitors per day, helping to recover costs.”
Through its software subscription and the Plugshare app [external] EPM has successfully promoted the charger with nearly 400 charging sessions since the installation in April 2024. This and its tariffs have helped EPM recover the costs of its charger investment over time and donate 10 cents from every kW to local charities each quarter.
“EPM wants to help WA’s broader decarbonisation efforts.”
EPM has helped WA’s broader decarbonisation efforts in two ways. Firstly, by opting in to be part of WA’s public charging network, and secondly by providing discounted tariffs to encourage EV drivers to charge off-peak taking advantage of its 100kW solar energy system when it is most abundant.
