Construction will soon begin on upgrades to Perth Airport that will allow for non-stop flights between Perth and London.

Premier Mark McGowan joined Tourism Minister Paul Papalia and Qantas CEO Alan Joyce to unveil plans for the new integrated domestic and international passenger hub.

The upgrade includes a new international wing comprised of an outdoor area, a new immigration and customs area and additional food and shopping options for visitors.

The international wing will be located within the existing T3/T4 area.  A new International Transit Lounge will also be accessible to eligible passengers, to provide shower and refresh facilities for people in transit and those flying out from Perth.

Qantas' domestic flights will operate out of the new precinct, as well as flights to London, Singapore and Auckland.

The State Government has committed $14 million towards the upgrades.  It is expected the Perth-London route will be worth up to $36 million a year in visitor spend for Western Australia's economy.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"This is a significant day for Western Australia. Getting these upgrades underway means we're one step closer to making non-stop Perth to London flights become a reality.

"We will continue to support this route and other ventures that increase visitor numbers and support jobs growth in this State."

Comments attributed to Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

"This is a big win for tourism and jobs in WA.

"Not only will we see job creation in the tourism industry from the extra visitors the new route will bring, many Qantas staff and their families will also settle in Perth and suppliers will be needed to stock the daily route with food and beverage.

"Tourism is a key economic driver for Western Australia and plays a vital role in diversifying the State's economy and creating new jobs."
