- Community Services Minister Simone McGurk opens Accordwest's new Bunbury Youth Accommodation facility - BunYAP House
Community Services Minister Simone McGurk today opened a new six-bedroom facility in South Bunbury to provide young people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, with purpose-built accommodation.
Accordwest's crisis accommodation service, which is commonly referred to as BunYAP, was previously delivered from a facility that required extensive renovations. The organisation decided to build a purpose-built facility that was more centrally located and better suited to the needs of young people.
The State Government provides more than $5 million annually for Accordwest to deliver community initiatives, including youth accommodation and support services, out of home care services, and homeless accommodation and support services.
Accordwest bought the land and paid for the construction costs of BunYAP House, with all the work on the building, from architect to builders, being sourced locally. A Lotterywest grant for $27,565 has enabled the purchase of furniture and electrical fittings.
Accordwest is a not-for-profit community service organisation that is based in Bunbury and has been operating since 1983.
