Drivers in Western Australia will be subject to double demerit points this WA Day long weekend.

Double demerit points will be enforced by WA Police from 12.01am Friday, June 2 until 11.59pm Monday, June 5.

Driving offences that attract double demerit points in Western Australia during public holiday periods include:

  • Speeding;
  • Drink or drug driving;
  • Failure to wear a seatbelt or child restraint;
  • Running a red light; and
  • Illegal use of a mobile phone while driving.

WA Police will target those drivers who continue to take risks on the roads and put the lives of other road users at risk.

Comments attributed to Police and Road Safety Minister Michelle Roberts:

"WA Police will target those offences that continue to be factors in fatal and serious injury road crashes on WA roads.

"That includes speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, running a red light and using a mobile phone while driving.

"Drivers are at risk of losing their licence if they are caught for one or more of those offences this long weekend.

"The aim of double demerit point periods is to encourage safe driving, so I urge WA motorists to be extra vigilant this WA Day long weekend, and to keep yourself and others safe on the roads."
