$158 million development approved for Perth City Link
- New development in Perth CBD to create jobs, further activating the city centre
- Further progress for WA to attract more investment in tourism
- Development close to public transport connection - a pillar of METRONET
- Construction anticipated to start by mid-2019
Planning Minister Rita Saffioti has granted development approval for a $158 million two-tower development adjacent to Perth Arena, as part of the Perth City Link project.
The Perth Hub development will be built by Far East Consortium at Lot 2 and 3A in the Perth City Link development area.
The first building is a 32-storey mixed-use tower with 314 apartments and 217 parking bays, supported by retail tenancies and a tavern at street level.
The second building will accommodate the four-star Dorsett Hotel - a 23-storey tower with 263 hotel rooms and a range of dining options and amenities for arena patrons, city workers and visitors to Perth.
In recommending the proposal for approval, the Minister noted the unique and high-quality contemporary design and the contribution the development would make to the new urban character of the reconnection of the central business district with Northbridge.
The development on Lot 2 was approved with an additional 16 storeys above the design guidelines and Lot 3 with an additional seven storeys. The development across the two lots achieved this by creatively redistributing the allowable floor space to achieve an alternate solution for the sites, demonstrating design excellence.
Perth Hub will include a range of housing sizes, and forms the first residential component of the Perth City Link area which will house about 3,000 people once fully developed.
Comments attributed to Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:
"The Perth City Link project is underpinned by bus and rail connections, and is an example of what METRONET will strive to achieve by reconnecting our city, attracting private investment and driving new business opportunities.
"Local, interstate and international visitors have Perth Arena and Yagan Square at their feet with the added bonus of direct train services to key destinations. With new hotel options, this will now be the ultimate destination for commuters and a popular weekender escape.
"The Perth City Link project will create hundreds of jobs for Western Australians. As construction and development progress over coming years, we will see retail, hospitality and hotel operations continue to boost the State's economy."
Comments attributed to Perth MLA John Carey:
"In the past year we have seen the opening of Yagan Square, Manatj Park and the connection of King and Lake streets open up the Perth City Link area.
"We are aiming to foster an environment of fun and vibrancy in the Perth CBD and more investment in hotels, retail and hospitality venues is a great sign that we are on the right track.
"This development also means we will have more people living in the city centre, relying on public transport and using the great businesses we have locally."
