Ten West Australian students will travel to Japan next year after successfully applying to participate in the 2025 Premier's Anzac Student Tour.
Premier Roger Cook and Education Minister Dr Tony Buti today announced the names of the 10 successful students.
The students were selected from schools across the State, including from Broome, Kalbarri, Geraldton, Perth, and Norseman. Two teachers were also selected to attend.
Students will travel to Japan from 17 to 27 April 2025 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
While in Japan, they will also have the opportunity to reflect on the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and recognise the significant acts of reconciliation that have occurred between our nations since this time.
As part of a rigorous application process, students were selected for the tour based on their response to the question: using a Western Australian example, examine the significance of monuments and/or other modes of commemoration established to honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in war.
The Premier's Anzac Student Tour is an annual competition open to all WA students in Years 8 to 11. Since 2004, a total of 266 students have been selected to participate in the program.
