Tiger Airways will start daily flights between Singapore and Perth months earlier than planned.
Tourism Minister Sheila McHale today welcomed Tiger's announcement that permanent daily services would start from May 1 - not November, as originally expected.
"This is great news and shows there is real demand for Tiger's low-cost air services," Ms McHale said.
"Singapore is Western Australia's second biggest source of visitors, so the expansion of Tiger Airways flights to Perth is a significant boost to our tourism industry.
"This also complements the trade and marketing efforts we are making to grow the Asian market, particularly in China."
The Minister said Tiger Airways would take to the skies between Singapore and Perth on March 23.
The airline originally planned to offer four services a week, with additional flights during peak holiday periods from March to October. However, advance bookings had proved so popular, the airline would start daily services much earlier than expected.
"Each year, about 57,000 visitors from Singapore travel to WA and that should increase significantly as holidaymakers take advantage of Tiger's low prices," Ms McHale said.
"Historically, low-cost carriers have been successful in boosting tourism by offering competitive fares and attracting visitors who have not previously travelled much.
"A Singapore-based marketing campaign has just been launched and will run until June.
"The campaign between Tourism WA and Tiger Airways will include press and online advertising, promotional activities and journalist and travel industry familiarisation trips."
The Minister said return fares from Singapore started from SGD320 (including taxes and charges).
