Holiday accommodation in the Peel region has been given a boost with Tourism Minister Sheila McHale today officially opening Mandurah's new Seashells Resort.
Ms McHale said the resort would be an important asset and help satisfy an increasing demand for holiday accommodation in Western Australia.
"The Seashells Resort is a major boost for the region and will help lift the profile and appeal of WA as a destination worldwide," she said.
"As well as delighting locals and visitors, this kind of development helps attract tourism investment into WA, which in turn means jobs and a boost for the local economy.
"High quality sustainable accommodation in prime locations is the way forward for our tourism industry."
The Minister said the Seashells Resort boasted 72 luxury apartments, 14 beach villas and conference facilities. Stage two of the resort would see construction of an additional 108 units.
Ms McHale said the resort would help meet the challenges presented to the tourism industry by a shortage of tourist accommodation.
"There is no doubting the demand for high quality accommodation in Mandurah and this resort helps meet that demand," she said.
Seashells has a strong presence in the United Kingdom, Central Europe, South Africa and New Zealand markets through its sales and marketing activities.
