New number plates for Western Force
5/02/06
New licence plates made for the Western Force rugby team will include the first full-graphic polycarbonate number plates in Australia.
The plates were unveiled today by the Minister Assisting in Planning and Infrastructure, David Templeman.
The limited edition, polycarbonate plate features a full-colour background showing a graphic design of the Western Force logo beneath brilliant white characters with up to two numbers preceding the word 'FORCE'.
"These plates are the first of their kind in Australia and illustrate the flexibility and quality of design which can be incorporated on to them," Mr Templeman said.
"The possibilities for full graphics and colour on these plates are what sets them apart from others, and makes them appealing to people who want their vehicles to reflect their own style and personality.
"It is an opportunity for people to really personalise their cars and show their allegiance to their favourite sporting club, like the Western Force."
The full-graphic plates are unique in Australia. Queensland produces a similar standard of graphics but they are not printed on polycarbonate.
"The beauty of the polycarbonate plates is that they are durable, offer a greater choice for customers and they are more in keeping with today's vehicles, which favour hardened, shock-absorbing materials over rigid metals," Mr Templeman said.
The Minister said the polycarbonate plates, which were covered by a 10-year warranty, began life as a vibrant white surface which was then screen-printed with colours to form the background, characters and graphic as required.
"We have had polycarbonate plates in WA since 1985 when name plates were first introduced, but the ones you see today are much more advanced - they are the next generation of vehicle accessory," he said.
"Custom plates are a great way to make a statement of individuality in a world where more and more vehicles are beginning to look the same.
"As a proud Western Australian, I am delighted that our own Western Force rugby team is the first to showcase this new licence plate technology."
Western Force plates will be on sale from February 20. For sales information on the plates, contact 9387 0700.
