Children who suffer from speech and language or hearing impairments will have access to the highest quality treatment thanks to Lotterywest funding for a new early intervention centre.
Disability Services Minister Sheila McHale today presented $500,000 to the Telethon Speech and Hearing Centre for Children for a new Early Childhood Learning Centre.
Ms McHale said the project was the latest in a comprehensive upgrade of facilities at the centre's Wembley site.
"It will house playgroups, kindergarten and pre-primary classes and individual therapy sessions," she said.
"The centre will help meet the needs of children with speech, language and hearing impairments, and extend the work of the specialist early intervention team which prepares young children for the transition into mainstream education.
"This is an exciting undertaking and will help children who have speech and hearing impairments by providing them with the very best educational start."
Work is expected to start on the new centre at the end of the year.
"The Carpenter Government is making decisions to benefit all Western Australians, wherever they live," the Minister said.
