$13million Girrawheen primary school on track

TAG Architects has been appointed to design the new $13million school the State Government announced would replace Montrose and Hainsworth Primary Schools.
Education and Training Minister Mark McGowan said meetings had been held at both schools to explain the amalgamation and relocation process.
"Planning for the new school is well underway, with the implementation committee meeting for the first time recently," Mr McGowan said.
"The committee, which is made up of parents, staff and Department of Education and Training representatives, will meet fortnightly to ensure a smooth transition for students."
Working parties have also been formed to decide on the new school's name, badging and uniforms.
Girrawheen MLA Margaret Quirk said Montrose Primary School students would be relocated to the Hainsworth Primary School site for the start of the 2008 school year, so construction could start on the Montrose site.
"It would be an enormous distraction having a building site outside a classroom, that's why the Montrose school children will be temporarily relocated," Ms Quirk said.
"However, the end result will be a brand new school with 10 classrooms, three early childhood classrooms, an education support centre, a library resource centre, a covered assembly area, a canteen, art and craft facilities, a dental centre and an administration block."
The school, which is expected to be finished in late 2009, will cater for 360 students from kindergarten to Year seven, including 30 students from Montrose Education Support Centre.
Mr McGowan said the Carpenter Government was using the State's strong economy to provide better education facilities for young Western Australians.
"At the last election, the Government promised to build 39 new schools worth $400 million, spend $300million to upgrade existing schools and spend another $300 million for school maintenance work," he said.
"We have already built, planned or announced 39 new schools - 27 new primary schools and 12 new secondary schools."
