From 1 July 2025, the Department of Communities’ current housing functions, including the Housing Authority and social housing works and tenancy management, will move to the new Department of Housing and Works.

The Office of Homelessness will stay with Communities supporting the recently appointed Minister for Homelessness.

Another aspect of the reform is an Office of Early Childhood being established in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. This new office does not change Communities’ role supporting the Early Years Partnership or the regulatory functions of our Education and Care Regulatory Unit (ECRU).

Please be assured that while this reform is being implemented, Communities’ people and teams will continue to work with you based on our existing arrangements and contracts to provide responsive services that build safe, inclusive and empowered communities.
