Road Policing Command have charged a 20-year-old man in relation to a reckless driving incident that occurred in a school zone in Kenwick on Friday 4 April 2025.

It will be alleged about 7.45am, the man was travelling on a Suzuki motorcycle on Royal Street, near Cooper Avenue.

The man was captured by a speed camera travelling at an alleged speed of 113km/h in a 40km/h zone – 73km/h over the speed limit.

It will be further alleged, the man failed to correctly display a P-plate at the rear of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle was impounded.

A 20-year-old man from Piara Waters has been charged with:
• 1 x Reckless Driving Exceeded the Speed Limit by 45 km/h or more in a Confiscation Zone
• 1 x Failed to Display P Plates

He is due to appear before the Armadale Magistrates Court on Friday 23 May 2025.

Commander Mike Bell of Road Policing Command is extremely disappointing to see a continuance of unsafe speeding incidents on Western Australia roads.

“Safety measures around school zones are in place for a very good reason, to protect children who are considered vulnerable road users around school grounds.

“It’s extremely disappointing to see that this was the second motorist in just a matter of days who was captured travelling at dangerous speeds in a school zone, after we charged a tow-truck driver for travelling at nearly 100 kilometres per hour five days prior.

“Driving at 40km/h in these crossing zones is a very small sacrifice to make to ensure children are safe.

“Alongside the four teenagers Road Policing caught racing on Wednesday night, the past week reinforces that WA Police are ‘anywhere, anytime’ and that you can expect your vehicle to be impounded if you travel at these excessive speeds.

“WA Police reminds all motorists that we expect to visit every school zone in the metropolitan area at least once this year. We urge you to drive safely and consider the safety of others on our roads”
