A final report, produced by our Women’s Interests team, on the implementation of recommendations of the Respect@Work inquiry outlines progress made in addressing sexual harassment in the workplace, marking the pursuit of safer, more inclusive work environments.
In 2020, the Australian Human Rights Commission released Respect@Work: National Inquiry into Sexual Harassment in Australian Workplaces, which outlined 55 recommendations aimed at preventing and responding to sexual harassment in workplaces. State and Territory governments had responsibility for 18 of the 55 recommendations.
The recently released report shows Western Australia has successfully completed 15 of the 18 recommendations with the remaining three in advanced stages of completion.
A significant recommendation completed in 2024 was the establishment of WA’s first Working Women’s Centre to assist women who are experiencing sexual harassment, discrimination and other workplace issues.
Every State and Territory now has a Working Women’s Centre which provide crucial legal, education and advocacy services to women and also deliver workplace training to help employers to create safe workplaces.
