The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage’s (DPLH) innovative Gap Year Program (the Program) offers Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) high school leavers the opportunity to develop their potential in an agency that plays a leading role in shaping the future of Western Australia’s cities, towns and regions. The Department serves the community by overseeing and delivering a variety of exciting and challenging projects in the State’s planning, lands and heritage portfolios.
The Program runs for 12 months. Successful applicants will receive paid work experience in the public sector, and professional development support with certification through a Registered Training Organisation. They will be placed in their area of interest and develop a generalist set of transferable skills and knowledge by working with experts in various fields.
The Department welcomes applications from those located across Western Australia. If relocation support is required for applicants, this can be discussed during the application process.
Four positions are available in 2024. In support of the Department’s commitment to building an inclusive workforce, one position is dedicated to an applicant who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and another for a person with a disability.
